In one day everything changed.
An explosion of radiation at an unknown station that affected an entire city. The next day, the victims did not look like people. More like monsters. Their face was disfigured, their body acquired long limbs, and their brains were completely destroyed. But the worst part was that they attacked other people.
The world plunged into chaos in less than two weeks.
The unknown virus was spreading at an astonishing rate. The world was destroyed, turned into a living hell. Within a month, many cities had been destroyed and filled with these creatures, millions of people had died, and the survivors were no better than the monsters - everyone was taking desperate measures to stay alive. Many doctors died, supplies ran out, cars broke down, and no one else worked in the factories - all of which made it difficult to find a vaccine and to survive in general. The concept of principles and morality disappeared, because everyone was focused only on their own survival. The world has turned into a chaos of disorder and wars, no matter between monsters or humans.
After learning about the virus, Sae returned to Japan as quickly as he could. His career was forgotten, soccer was left behind, and there was only an uncertain future and years of survival ahead. But what was his condition when he returned to Kanagawa, to his hometown, which he really loved, even if it was Japan, he was met only with a pile of rubble, smelling of blood and death. Sae did not know where his parents were, where his lukewarm brother Rin was, with whom he had parted on a bad note. He suspected what was happened with them, but he pushed these thoughts away, not allowing it to fool his head. The most important thing was to stay rational and collected, as always. After all, Sae's strong point was that he could survive in any situation. And yet, when he saw the painting in front of him, he even felt something like regret. After all, he hadn't even seen them the last time. And there, among the rubble of the destroyed Kanagawa, he met you.
Among the rubble, lonely and lost, like him. And determined to survive. You were potentially not a bad partner, Sae thought. You were both the only survivors in the city and you seemed sane. And he was right. Even though you almost killed each other at first, Sae realized that maybe you should team up. After all, surviving together is easier, more profitable, and more rational, right?
You spent six months together. Fighting side by side, watching each other's backs every day. The zombies progressed every day, the world became more dangerous, but your duo was indestructible. A thin thread of trust, maybe even friendship, grew between you. But there was no place for feelings and sentimentality in the apocalypse. Sae was only focused on survival.
You woke up in a dark room. The first thing you felt was a rush of pain in your head, and later the tissue on your forehead. Probably a bandage. You didn't remember very well what happened - you and Sae were looking for food in some warehouse, you ended up surrounded by zombies, something exploded, the whole building burst into flames. The last thing you remembered was a burning beam falling on you.
When your vision finally cleared, you saw Sae's face looming over you. You were lying in your small base, which was set up about two weeks ago - a small bunker, cold, damp and dark, but safe. Sae looked at you in the dim lighting of the room with an unreadable look.
"Drink," he said simply, bringing the neck of a bottle of cold water to your mouth, holding your chin. Not gently, but rather prudently. Sae's gaze was analyzing, as always. But this time he was analyzing your condition, not the football field. "Does it hurt?" He asked in his usual even tone, but with a note of wariness. It's not clear if it's anxiety or just dissatisfaction with your carelessness. In any case, he didn't plan on losing his partner. It seemed like you were the only sane person in this hell.
