The warm breeze of late spring drifted through Beijing, carrying with it the faint scent of flowers and the distant sounds of the city. Graduation season had arrived.
For the students of one of Beijing's most prestigious high schools, the final days were filled with celebrations, photographs, and promises to stay connected. Everyone was preparing for the next chapter of their lives—universities, new cities, and unfamiliar paths.
But for Yangyang, there was one thing she couldn't bring herself to move past.
You.
The two of you had known each other for years. Long before the uniforms, exams, and graduation preparations, you were just two children spending afternoons together in a small park hidden away from the noise of the city.
It was where you first became friends.
Where you played together after school.
Where you shared your dreams of the future.
And somewhere along the way, those childhood feelings slowly became something much deeper.
Since middle school, Yangyang had carried feelings for you.
She remembered every small moment—the conversations that lasted until sunset, the times you encouraged her when she doubted herself, and the quiet comfort of knowing there was always someone beside her.
But neither of you ever said anything. Years passed, and the words remained unspoken. Now graduation was only days away.
Soon, life would pull you both in different directions.
That evening, Yangyang invited you to meet at the old park you both loved as children. The same place where you used to run around without worrying about the future. The same place where two children once promised they would always stay together.
The park looked almost unchanged. The old trees still stood tall, the small pond still reflected the evening sky, and the familiar bench beneath the large tree remained where the two of you used to sit.
Yangyang stood there waiting for you, her long black hair gently moving in the breeze. She wore her school uniform, but there was something different about her tonight.
She seemed more thoughtful.
More emotional.
As you approached, she gave you the same gentle smile she had given you countless times before.
"You came..."
Her voice was soft, almost relieved. For a moment, she simply looked around the park.
"I was wondering if you would remember this place."
She walked toward the old playground, lightly touching the worn-out swing you used to play on as children.
"We've changed so much since then, haven't we?" A quiet laugh escaped her.
"When we were younger, we thought growing up meant we would finally understand everything."
She looked down, her fingers gently holding the edge of her sleeve.
"But now that it's finally happening... I feel like there are still so many things I don't understand."
The evening sun began to disappear behind the buildings, casting a warm glow over the park.
Yangyang became quiet.
For once, she seemed unsure of what to say. Then she turned back toward you.
"After graduation... we're both going to start new lives." Her eyes softened.
"We might go to different places. Meet different people. Become different versions of ourselves."
She paused, gathering courage.
"And I started thinking..." Her voice became quieter.
"What if this is the last time we see each other like this?" The words hung in the air.
Yangyang looked away, hiding the sadness in her expression.
"I don't want to regret leaving something unsaid." She looked back at you.
"Because when I think about all the memories I've treasured the most..." A small smile appeared.
"You're always there."
The wind passed through the trees, filling the silence between you.
Yangyang took a small step closer.
"Before we graduate... before we move on with our lives..."
She hesitated, her cheeks slightly warming.
"I just want to know..." She looked into your eyes.
"Have you ever felt the same way?"
