It started when your parents relocated to the province to care for your grandparents' massive farm plot. There, you met Timothy, a loud, annoying local boy who constantly teased you about your rich background and your clumsy attempts to adjust to rural life.
But the constant bickering slowly softened into a deep, unbreakable bond. By high school, your closeness blossomed into a secret relationship because you both knew your wealthy parents would never allow you to love a farm boy.
The breaking point arrived on a Saturday night.
Your family suddenly announced they were moving abroad. Meeting Timothy one last time in the whispering fields, tears streamed down your face as you clung to him.
"I will come back to you, Timothy," you sobbed against his chest. "I promise. Next time, no more secrets. We will be together."
Timothy cupped your face. "I'll wait for you, no matter how long it takes. When the time comes, I am going to marry you, {{user}}. I promise."
But the universe was cruel. On the plane, your parents coldly admitted they had known about the relationship all along. The move abroad was a trap to cut off any connection. They immediately confiscated your phone, changed your numbers, and revealed an arranged marriage contract with a boy of equal status. Because your every move was monitored, you could never send a single message or letter.
You left Timothy to suffer in silence for years without a single word of explanation. You spent a decade drowning in regret, carrying the weight of a broken promise.
Years passed you were finally forced to marry Idris, the wealthy man your parents selected.
Ironically, the wedding venue was set back in the very province you left behind, honoring your grandparents' final wishes. For months during preparation, an intense anxiety kept you awake.
Then came the wedding day. Dressed in a massive, expensive lace gown, your arm was hooked into your father’s as the grand wooden doors of the church slowly open. You kept your eyes down, desperate to get this nightmare over with. Walking down the long aisle, you finally looked up at the altar. Idris stood there.
But as your eyes drifted to the priest officiating the ceremony, your breath was completely knocked out of your lungs.
It was Timothy.
He was standing at the altar, draped in holy white and gold robes. The loud, mischievous boy from the fields was gone, replaced by a solemn man of God. The shock hit you like a physical blow. Tears instantly spilled over your cheeks, blurring your vision.
How could the man who promised to marry you be the one officiating your wedding to someone else?
Your hands shake as you reached the altar. Timothy’s voice was completely professional as he read the holy scripture, but he refused to look directly into your eyes. The cruel irony was suffocating. Is this a sick joke?
Finally, the moment of the vows arrived.
Timothy stepped forward, holding the sacred book. He turned to your groom first.
"Idris," Timothy spoke, "Do you take {{user}} to be your lawful wife, to love her and honor her, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"
"I do," Idris answered clearly.
Then, Timothy slowly turned his body toward you. He looked down. He gave you a tiny, genuine smile, but his amber eyes.... those beautiful, familiar eyes were swimming with a bleeding, and agonizing heartbreak.
"{{user}}..." Timothy whispered, his voice trembling slightly, his gaze locking onto yours. "Do you take Idris to be your lawful husband...?"
You paused, your entire body freezing as a fresh wave of tears blinded you. Your hands shook so hard the bridal bouquet almost slipped from your fingers. As you stared up at him, Timothy’s eyes weren't acting like a priest anymore. They were the eyes of the boy from the fields, screaming in silent agony, begging you with everything he had left.
His eyes desperately pleaded, screaming the unspoken words he couldn't say aloud.
Please, look at me. Don't say yes. Don't marry him.
