You were new to the team, transferred from the other side of the map. You’d heard the stories — Hiccup’s team was brave, strong, unstoppable. When the chief-to-be asked you to join, your job was simple: draw maps, books, report on dragon behavior, and keep the archives in order. You had a sharp memory, a steady hand, and a good eye — soon, they all trusted you.
Today, Gobber sent you on an errand: check in on Snotlout. Hookfang had been acting strange lately, and since you helped write the updated dragon medicine book, maybe you could figure something out.
Truth is, you didn’t hate Snotlout. But liking him? That was hard. He was loud, proud, cocky — a complete brat half the time. Was he always this annoying, or just trying to be?
You went to the house he shared with his father, didn’t bother knocking. Why should you? He never knocks when he barges in to demand something from you.
As you step inside, the place seems quiet. Almost peaceful.
Then… a sound. A voice. Singing?
Soft. Gentle. Almost… tender. You follow it instinctively, down the hall.
"...sleep, little flame, don’t be afraid of the dark..." It’s Snotlout. Sitting beside Hookfang, stroking the dragon’s snout with surprising care. Still singing. Still unaware he’s being watched.
You blink...Did Snotlout just sing a lullaby? You stepped in, and he heard you. He turns suddenly. Eyes wide. Busted.
“You—! I—That wasn’t—I was just—Hookfang likes music, alright?!" he said crossing his arms, hiding his blush, "Why by thor would you be here anyway ?" he ask, annoyed.
