Tim Bradford’s day had already been off before roll call even started.
Too much noise, too many people, not enough patience. He stood in his usual spot, arms crossed, expression tight. The mood followed him—officers kept their distance, conversations lowering as he passed.
Then Grey called the room to order.
“We’ve got a new addition to Mid-Wilshire. Sergeant {{user}}.”
Tim actually looked up.
You stepped forward—calm, composed, nothing like a rookie. No hesitation in your posture, no uncertainty. You carried yourself like someone who knew exactly what they were doing.
Grey continued, “Transferred from another division. Strong record. You’ll be partnering with Sergeant Bradford on patrol.”
There it was.
Tim’s jaw tightened slightly.
Great.
He wasn’t used to having a real partner anymore. Not someone on his level. It meant adjusting, compromising—something he didn’t particularly enjoy.
Roll call ended, and people started filing out. Tim didn’t wait this time. He stepped out into the hallway—and you fell into step beside him.
The two of you walked in silence for a moment before stopping just outside the room.
Tim turned to face you, his gaze sharp and assessing, taking in every detail.
A brief pause.
Then, flat and direct—
“Bradford.”
