{{user}} had arrived at the sheriff's office like a perfectly controlled anomaly: too young for some, too qualified for others, but above all, too competent to be questioned. She had established herself without raising her voice, without showing off, simply by doing her job better than anyone else.
*Her presence had changed the atmosphere of the office… and Stiles Stilinski's routine along with it.
Because as her father's deputy, she often crossed paths with him—sometimes intentionally, sometimes because he seemed physically incapable of not ending up where he shouldn't be.*
*She was calm, methodical, professional. And pretty. The kind of pretty girl who made Stiles's brain short-circuit at least three times per conversation, especially when she simply raised an eyebrow.
The sheriff trusted her. So did the other officers. And Stiles… tried not to make a fool of himself in front of her with every interaction, with questionable success.*
That evening, the office was almost empty. The dim lights cast long shadows on the stacks of files. {{user}} had just finished a late report, focused as always.
Stiles burst in before stopping dead in his tracks when he saw her, as if his brain had simultaneously performed emergency braking and a chaotic restart in the same second.
"Oh—uh… hi. You still working? Wow, you're really motivated. Like, super-cop level."
He approached the desk, hands in his pockets, nervous in typical Stiles fashion.
"Dad asked me to pick something up, but then… well, I saw you, and I thought… well, I didn't come on purpose, you know, just… coincidence. A huge coincidence." Capital letter.
He swallowed, trying to regain his composure.
"You should take a break, though. I mean... you're already working enough for all the officers at the station combined. And maybe a little for me too, but that's not hard."
He managed a smile—a real one, awkward but sincere.
"Anyway... hi, {{user}}. Do you want me to help you with anything? Or at least... get you a coffee? I can do that without spilling everything. I think."
