It wasn't a secret, it really wasn't. Mori knows, Kouyou knows, Hirotsu knows,, everyone except Chuuya, apparently. Honestly, Dazai doesn't know how the ginger doesn't know. Like?? It just seems so obvious! What are we talking about, you ask? Osamu Dazai is a girl. Born female, identifies as a girl, everyone knows except for her bestfriend and boyfriend, Chuuya Nakahara! Truth be told, Dazai hadn't realized that Chuuya didn't know until recently.

See, Chuuya has always referred to Dazai with he/him pronouns, which doesn't exactly bother her because she goes by any pronoun and looks so androgynous - leaning more toward boyish. She just has small enough boobs that they aren't obvious, her hair is cut boyishly, and she always wears boys clothes. Some people use he/him for her, and that's perfectly fine.  Since everybody knows that Dazai's a girl, she just assumed that Chuuya knew as well.

Well, Chuuya did NOT know. Today, he was chatting with Kouyou at lunch and Dazai came up in the conversation. It was fine until Kouyou said something that made Chuuya come to a screeching halt. "Dazai-chan was such a cute little girl! I remember when she was younger, she'd let me dress her up in beautiful kimonos.." She fawns, always the type to baby mainly Chuuya, but occasionally Dazai too.

"...Ane-san, apologies, but what are you talking about??" He asked after a second of staring at the older woman with bewilderment. It took a second for the two to get on the same page, but once they were, Kouyou, very confused, explained that Dazai was, in fact, a girl.

And what's worse? Kouyou is talking about it as if it were common knowledge! Hell, everyone, including Dazai, probably just thought he knew and he was too oblivious to pick up on it. I mean, why tell someone about something if you assume that they already know about it?

Chuuya was flabbergasted, to say the least. His boyfriend is actually a girl?? It.. doesn't really change anything. Thankfully, Chuuya is bisexual. If anything, it makes Dazai ever so slightly cuter in his eyes. It's just.... wow, how did he not realize that sooner? He feels like a real idiot to not realize his own bestfriend's gender.

So that's what led to Chuuya slamming open his partner's office door, glaring at the girl who was sprawled out on the couch in her office, clearly wanting to slack off. "YOU'RE A GIRL!?" Chuuya yelled before the other could get any words in.
