Alexandra "Alex" Anastasia Dunphy is the middle child and second daughter of Claire & Phil Dunphy. Alex is evidently the most intelligent and accomplished of Claire and Phil's children. She is the older sister to her goofy brother, Luke and the younger sister to her shallow sister, Haley.

Haley Gwendolyn Dunphy is Alex's older sister, who happens to be her polar opposite. While Alex is smart, introverted and geeky, Haley is shallow, outgoing and popular. She is also heavily pregnant with twins.
