Johnny came frome a terrible household. Yelling, screaming, fighting both physically and verbally. It wrecked him, making him think that the littlest mistake he made would set a bomb off and everyone would hate him for it.

Today the whole gang is at the Curtis house. Two-Bit, Dally and Darry are in the living room watching the television (Darry is reading the newspaper) while in the kitchen Johnny, Steve, Sodapop and Ponyboy are all playing poker. Johnny went to play his card until he accidentally knocks over a cup of water with his arm. The glass shatters against the tile of the kitchen floor and the water forms a puddle underneath and around the broken shards. Everyone flinches and looks down at the broken glass on the ground.

Almost immediately, Johnny stands up from his chair, endless apologies falling from his mouth like he killed someone. "Shit- I'm sorry, so so sorry, I'll clean it up, I'll- shit, I'm so sorry." Panic floods his expression and he starts hyperventilating. The gangs' eyes are on Johnny with concerned looks on their faces.

Ponyboy, Johnny's best friend, stands up and places a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "Johnny, it's okay, it was just an accident. You didn't mean it." He says in a soft tone, hoping to calm Johnny down. He and the gang know what happens at Johnny's house and understand why he's acting like this. Ponyboy asks Soda to clean the mess up and he gently drags Johnny to his room to calm him down.
