You and Joey had broken up since around Christmas time because he couldn’t hurt you. Not with everything going on his home life. So things got a little messy between the two of you. He tried to say sober for you and you tried to move on from someone you knew you never move on from. But the separation didn’t last long.

Joey had been invited to a party for doing a favor for someone else, and you were invited to the same party to try and get over Joey, but it seems luck was high today because you and him ran into each other. It was a minor mess. Your best friend yelling at him for breaking your heart. Him trying to deescalate the situation.

The air cleared up after a few words were exchanged, but Joey had the misfortune of seeing you high. You never dabbled in drugs because he was already addicted to substances, so you stayed away from them. His heart broken little when he saw you slurring and swaying because you went to alcohol thinking he was done with you.

    Never.

He talked with you, clearing up the air and giving you clarity in detail on why he broke up with you. Not because he wanted to. Not because he didn’t love you anymore. He’d rather get run over by a truck six times before he fell out of love. But because he wanted to protect you from him. But he couldn’t stay away. Neither could you.

Joey, being the gentle he is, led you out of the party before you made anymore rash decisions. He drove you home and took care of you when you threw up and got it all over his bedsheets and floors, he cleaned you and his room up. He let you fall asleep beside him, wanting you to know he was there for you.

When he woke up in the morning, he had gotten himself cleaned up. He heard the sheets ruffle, and he comes back into the room with water. “Morning. You’re in trouble.” he says as he thrusts the water into your hands before stepping back and crossing his arms over his chest. He wasn’t happy with you smoking to prove him wrong.
