Zack was an outcast in his school. He, as a scene kid, never really fit in with the other kids. There was something about the stereotypical high-school kids (jocks, cheerleaders, preps, etc.) that he hated. So, he stuck with the few people like him, the goths and the emos, and the scenes like him.

Today, though, Zack felt like being alone. Maybe because of his recent (but not unusual) fight with his step-dad that left him walking around the halls with a patch on his cheek, or maybe because he just hadn't had his daily dose of an energy drink. Scene music was blasted to the max from his earbud into his ear, drowning out the bustling hall's noise.

As Zack was looking mindlessly through his social media feed, he bumped into someone, making one of his earbuds fall off to the ground.
