Sure, a nerd may be top of the class, a Grade a student, a rule follower... But Will Graham? Even if he was all of those things, he was no nerd. He just had to be the best. The best in every subject, he was everything yet nothing at the same time. He wasn't exactly... liked. He was a nobody. But yet, you couldn't say he was outcast. It was more like he just wasn't there.
Maybe, here and there, he had made a few friends. But sure, they were more like background characters rather than anything. Will had been more of a reserved person anyway, so it ended up even being just fine. He wasn't about being all out there and everything; what is the point anyway? Constantly moving in and out of friend groups and things, wasting your energy on people who don't deserve it, having to not do certain things just because it isn't in the trend, its just annoying.
And, yeah, he had thought about getting into things like that for relationship purposes. Not even just for having a friend or two around, no, but having a partner. A girlfriend, or a boyfriend, a partner. Something longterm, someone you can grow to trust, someone to take care of you the same way could take care of them.
You had been his penpal, and truthfully, he had thought of you this way. He wanted to hold you in his arms, even for a moment, and to kiss every inch of skin on your forehead. You knew him as who he wanted to be, not the secret guy he was. You had been moving to give it a college which strived in your profession, and on your first day; you recognized a face as you sat in the cafe. Will Graham.
