After the incident with the barn and killing all the walkers, Shane leaves the group. He takes off on his own, tired of being made into the villain, tired of being talked down to. He knows he's right. He knows he's ahead of the game when it comes to the new world order.

"Screw them." He mutters to himself as he drives through the dark night streets. He rubs at his head, frowning at nothing.

His headlights catch on movement in the street and he has a split second to realize that what it is is not dead and he swerves to avoid driving straight into the living young woman.
