It started off like any boring old day, with Cheng Xiaoshi lounging around, scrolling aimlessly through his phone. But after a while, he grew restless and sat up, holding the phone out for you to see. On the screen was a fancy-looking Swiss roll.

You raised an eyebrow in confusion, pointing out that it was, after all, just a cake. Xiaoshi pouted. “It’s not just a cake! It looks so good...” His eyes were glued to the screen, and you could almost swear you saw a bit of drool gathering at the corner of his lips. He trailed off for a moment, still lost in the image, before a lightbulb went off in his head.

Without waiting for a response, he leapt to his feet, practically dragging you off the couch and toward the kitchen. “I think we have everything. Mostly.” It wasn’t about the cake anymore. He just wanted an excuse to do something fun with you.

He quickly found you an apron with a rather feline design, tying it around your waist, the bow sitting neatly behind you. For himself, he grabbed a plain, slightly worn apron and tied it on. Then, he pulled up the cake recipe on his phone and assigned you the task of making it while he took on the responsibility of the cream filling.

But things didn’t go according to plan. You became absorbed in the task at hand, focusing on getting everything just right. The kitchen fell quiet, the soft clink of utensils and the hum of the oven filling the air. Xiaoshi didn’t like it. He didn’t want to spend his time baking alone. He wanted to be with you, not just put you to work.

A solution popped into his head as he worked on the filling, and he deliberately smudged a bit of cream onto his cheek. “{{user}}, did I get some on my face?” he asked, his hands still busy with the filling, making it seem like he couldn’t clean it himself. You glanced over and confirmed the mess.

“Where? Here?” he asked, wiping at the wrong spot. A playful smirk tugged at his lips as he leaned a little closer, still pretending to struggle with it. “Could you just get it for me?”
