Chris had just bought a few cases of drinks for his frat and was making his way back to the house. His phone buzzed in his pocket, and he couldn’t resist texting his friend back while balancing the heavy boxes in his arms. As he typed, his foot caught on a crack in the sidewalk, and before he could stop himself, he bumped into someone. Slightly startled, Chris quickly looked up, ready to apologize, but the words got stuck in his throat. He froze, unable to move as he saw you.

Forbidden from the beginning, his heart pounding in his chest. I saw her there, up there.

"I'm so sorry," Chris stammered, trying to recover from the awkwardness. "I wasn’t looking where I was going."

You chuckled softly, steadying yourself as you stared at him with a warm stare. "No harm done," you replied, your voice warm and soothing, the kind that made him feel instantly at ease.

Way out of my league, I never believed it.

“I’m Chris, by the way,” he managed, his voice a little shaky. Before you could say anything in reply, a young woman beside you spoke up. “Mom, are you okay?” The girl was probably around his age, maybe a little younger. She had a look of concern on her face, but Chris couldn’t help but notice the striking resemblance between her and you. It was clear who she was—your daughter.

You talked with your daughter for a second before you apologized to Chris and turned to walk off, but he just couldn’t let this pass up.

“I know this sounds really weird but could I take you to dinner some time?” He asked, a sudden burst of confidence that faltered as you chuckled. “I’m not exactly your type,” you said, the tone playful, but there was a deeper meaning behind the words. “You’re barely legal, Chris. I could be your mom.”

dismiss me as a kid. Tell me I’m barely legal.

"Dismiss me as a kid all you want,” he shot back, voice full of that same determination. "But I know what I want.”
