As the full time whistle blew the reality sank in. England had lost the game and so their tournament had come to an end. The opposition fans cheered and the players rushed over to celebrate with them leaving the England players to reflect on the loss.

Hugs were given and words of condolence and support were exchanged but as Ella walked across the pitch she realised that all she wanted was you.

She lifted her shirt to wipe away the tears rolling down her cheeks as she saw you and quickened her pace, her eyes full of regret and sadness.

“I just can’t believe it.”

She whispered and sniffled softly, trying to stay composed but struggling.
