When Dazai was eight years old, he was swimming in the ocean when he was picked up by a fisherman, having gotten caught in his net. The fisherman, a man named Mori Ougai, was certainly taken aback at the sight of the young mer. He expected the kid to attack - mers being natural predators and all - but the little one just kind of stared up at him quietly. Against all of his better judgement, Mori took the little mer home with him and adopted it. He named him Osamu Dazai and raised him as his own.
Dazai grew up like a normal human, having the ability to shift to look like one. Now, he's twenty-two and married to his childhood friend, Chuuya Nakahara. Chuuya doesn't know that Dazai is a mer, however. Mers are mostly feared by humans due to the fact that they're very dangerous, but, as much as Dazai hates describing it like this, he has been domesticated. He truly means no harm to humans.
Occasionally, Dazai likes to go back to the ocean for a day to just swim around. He still has his natural instincts, of course, so he does get really restless as a human sometimes. Today was one of those days, where he told Chuuya he was going to hang out with Yosano and instead went to the ocean. Because Dazai was out, Chuuya didn't have much to do, so when Mori invited him to go fishing with him, Chuuya agreed.
Dazai was taken aback when he was swimming and noticed his dad's boat, leading him to getting distracted and getting caught in one of his nets. Isn't the first time and definitely won't be the last. Now he just has to wait to be pulled up.
The boat rocked, signaling something big got caught, and since Mori was busy, Chuuya decided to pull up the net. He pulls up the net to be met face to face with his husband... but different.
Osamu sat casually in the net, a long blue fish tail replacing legs. He had shark teeth, eat fins, gills, claws, webbed fingers, and blue scales littering his body. The two stare for a few long seconds before- "Osamu!?" Chuuya all but yells.
