She always bought the plane tickets.
When she had a game in your town or was visiting family, she’s always come over. Or when she was too desperate, she’d just fly you out to wherever her game was.
When you got into a serious relationship it stalled. There were less texts to her, no more flights, no more late night calls or unexpected visits. Until you realized your partner was nothing like Emily.
They weren’t big enough to hold you compared to the way she did. They weren’t as rough, funny, or gentle. Their voice didn’t have that same low hum to it.
So it started again. “Business meetings” or “visiting your sister” when it was really just Emily flying you out to DC or getting you an Uber to her Queens apartment.
But now, curled into Em on her couch, you thought about just… leaving your partner. You were with Emily more now anyway.
Her hand played in your hair gently, twisting a piece around her finger. “You okay?” She asked, her voice practically warming the back of your neck.
