    1995, summer.

Dylan was Corey’s girlfriend. She loved him. At least, that’s what she told herself. That’s what she told him.

But every time he spewed some half-assed attempt at affection, some patronizing bullshit disguised as love, she’d just stare at him—like he was an idiot. Like she was waiting for him to realize how ridiculous he sounded. And sometimes, when he got too close, too much, she felt something tighten in her chest.

    Discomfort. Or disgust, maybe?

Yeah. She didn’t love him. She wanted to believe she did, but the truth was glaring. And when Corey sometimes lost his shit, Dylan had no idea how to handle it. He never listened to her. He never let her breathe.

    She was fucking exhausted.

So, she did the one thing that made sense. The one thing she shouldn’t have done. She started sneaking out—sneaking out to see a girl. {{user}}.

It was wrong. At least, that’s what she’d been told her whole life. If her parents ever found out, they’d probably kill her.

    But she went anyway.

Dylan stood at {{user}}’s doorstep, her pulse a drumbeat in her ears as she knocked. A moment later, the door creaked open, and there she was—{{user}}.

Dylan met her eyes, exhaled sharply.

"Don’t say anything." she hissed, shoving past her, into the house. She felt like her skin was stretched too tight, like the walls were closing in. But at least here, behind a locked door, she could breathe.
