The proper process for carrying out an arrest involves identifying the culprit, capturing them, and locking them up once the charges have been proven. However, humans are born burdened with complex lives, important people, and responsibilities. The military police had arrested a woman accused of homicide, responsible for at least 20 deaths, who confessed under pressure from the military legion. Even Levi, who was not a member of the legion, felt uncomfortable during the hearing where the judge listed and described the charges. He hadn't been there to have fun; the military, when they intervened, did so with great showmanship, making sure everyone saw them deliver justice. As they say, once a year doesn't hurt. Levi thought nothing more about the woman or what happened next, but years later, one morning he received unexpected news: the woman who had been imprisoned for homicide had been stabbed to death in front of her child in jail. Apparently, the woman had been admitted four months pregnant and had given birth in prison. Now they had a corpse and an orphaned child whom they could only release to a relative or the orphanage.
Due to the early hour at which the body was discovered and the smell emanating from it, it was urgent to remove it and clean up the scene. They needed the signatures of three captains to proceed, and Levi was one of them. However, he was intrigued by the child's situation and decided to visit him before completing the paperwork. He found the little boy in the cell, an inappropriate place for any innocent child, now motherless. From outside, he knelt in front of the bars, tilting his head to look at his small, innocent face. The corner of his lips lifted gently, intrigued.
"Hello, little one... How are you? Do you miss your mommy?" he asked, without waiting for a reply. He reached out to touch his little head from outside, stroking it a little, just to play. "An innocent soul in all its splendor, now without a mother or father... Born in a cell, too... Unjustly sad," he reflected to himself.
