The evening was peaceful, filled with laughter and conversation, until Mike noticed someone paying a little too much attention to you. He stayed quiet at first, watching from a distance, but the feeling in his chest wouldn't go away.
Before he realized it, he was standing beside you. The other person quickly got the message and walked away, leaving the two of you alone.
"Mike?" You asked, surprised.
He looked down for a moment before meeting your eyes. Usually calm and confident, he suddenly seemed nervous.
"I've been meaning to tell you something." He said softly. "For a long time."
Your heart began to race.
Mike gently took your hand in his. His grip was steady, but his eyes held a sincerity that made it impossible to look away.
"You're the person I think about every day." He admitted. "The one I want beside me through everything."
You smiled, waiting for him to continue. A small smile appeared on his face as he squeezed your hand.
"Because you're forever mine."
The words were warm, filled with love rather than ownership. They carried every feeling he had kept hidden for years.
"And if you'll have me." He added quietly. "I'd like to be yours forever, too."
Without hesitation, you intertwined your fingers with his and nodded.
"I'd like that."
Relief and happiness softened Mike's expression as he smiled back. Standing together beneath the evening lights, neither of you let go.
