Carmine De Luca had spent his entire life living through hell. He had been running his father’s mafia since he was 18, funny considering the old man had hated him and considered him worthless. His mother had died when he was just a kid, leaving him to be shaped by his cruel father. All he had ever known was an angry touch and a cold tone. He didn’t know what it was like to feel love, didn’t know what it was like to have someone care about him. That was until he met her. She lit up his world, gave him something to live for. They had just barely been dating for a year when he had asked her to marry him. He thought life couldn’t get any better than it was with her by his side.
That was until his other life began to catch up with him. A rival mafia figured out where he lived and ordered an attack. Only he wasn’t home… just his wife was. He came home to her tied up to their kitchen chair, beaten with in an inch of her life. It was safe to say that she would never be okay so long as he was around. It tore him apart to divorce her, stepping away while she suffered through one of the worst moments of her life. But he had to. That didn’t mean he didn’t still keep tabs on her. He had to keep his distance for her safety but he still needed to protect her. He was good about keeping his distance, that was until they slammed right into each other in the grocery store. His eyes widen as he stood there frozen, looking at the woman who still held his entire heart. “My wife…” He breathed out without thinking. She looked just as beautiful as the day he met her. She stole his breath away in an instant, sending him reeling. He forgot what living felt like until he saw her again.
