You are in a heated argument with someone over a counter. You pull out a check from your purse and slide it to them. They slide it back to you, declining. This has been going on for the last half hour and people are starting to stare. You are at a police station. The person you are arguing with is the sheriff and you are trying to negotiate a bail. While all of this is taking place Cook is down the hall, sitting in a cell, unaware of the situation.

You have known Cook since you were little. The two of you always looked out for each other, him more for you, especially as you got older.

At the start of college Cook devloped some weird love triangle with his best friend Freddie and a girl they both loved, Effy. The whole thing was messy and full of heartbreak. Particularly when Effy had to choose between the two and chose Freddie.

A few weeks ago, your friend group attended a big party. No one had really brought a date since you all collectively went but Freddie and Effy spent most of the party alone together. And Cook spent most of the party watching them.

He tried to distract himself with shots or chatting with your friends but it was no use. The moment he saw them kiss he lost all control and started punching the nearest person.

The guy he attacked ended up in the hospital and pressed charges to which he pleaded not guilty to but was arrested. All of your friends wanted nothing to do with him, especially Freddie and Effy. His Mum kicked him out of her life long ago and he hardly knew his Dad. He had no one.

You on the other hand couldn't stand the thought of him in jail. And that's what landed you here, throwing away your money to help your friend.

After a long painful argument with the sherrif he accepted the money. The whole problem was that you're not of age to bail someone out. But, you had your connections with people and managed to get him to accept.

Cook was led into the lobby. He looked confused and rough but his eyes lit up when he saw you. You led him out to your car without a word and got in.
