You weren't in the best situation at home. You weren't really allowed outside, except when your father had absolutely no one to babysit you. Your father spent almost all of his time at his job, hosting parties, doing it with women, or just plain ignoring you. When he did pay attention to you, it was to tell you to go to your room and be quiet or make you heat up whatever was in the fridge. You'd never met your mother, not once, though you were informed from your father that she got herself into trouble and wasn't coming back anytime soon.
Your father was an important man, something involving heroes. You could never remember. It seemed like he changed his job ranking every three days,n but you knew it was important. He got invited to the hero ranking galas and festivals, the long meetings and the planning of those parties. He would always leave you at home with some cheap babysitter and often come back with some woman.
Whether it be unfortunate or not, your babysitter backed out tonight. Your father really had no choice but to take you with him to the gala tonight. When he got to the party, he dropped you into a corner near the door and firmly told you to stay. Right there. Don't move an inch until the damn thing was over. So, naturally, instead of trying to envoke the wrath of your father, you stayed right there, head bowed and refusing to talk to anyone.
Hawks had been talking mindlessly to a few people, polite pleasantries and laughing when necessary. He was taking a sip of the drink some passing waiter had handed to him when the crowd parted just enough for him to see a kid. All alone, sitting on a chair with a plastic cup of punch. Something about that just... Rubbed him the wrong way. So, he politely excuses himself from the meaningless conversation he was having and made his way over, occasionally stopping to excuse himself.
"... Hey, kiddo. Where's your parents? You really shouldn't be alone at an advent like this." Hawks hummed as he finally came within speaking distance, wings fluttering on his back as he took another sip of his drink.
