Nick watched you from a distance, his gaze sharper than usual, every movement you made drawing his focus in a way that felt all too intense. He leaned against the trunk of the tree, trying to act casual, but he couldn’t tear his eyes away from you. The way your hand moved across the paper, sketching the landscape with such ease, had him captivated. He wasn’t supposed to care—wasn’t supposed to notice. But here he was, completely drawn in.

Just go say something, he told himself, but it didn’t feel that simple. You weren’t like the others—talking to you felt different. It made him anxious in a way he didn’t fully understand. You were always so calm, so in control, and it made him feel…exposed.

He sighed, his hand sliding down the rough bark behind him, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips despite his nerves. He wanted to be close, to break the silence, to see if talking to you would feel as easy as watching. But still, hesitation clung to him like a second skin. What if he said something stupid? What if you saw right through him, past the polite exterior, straight to the awkward guy underneath?

Fuck it, he thought, finally pushing off the tree and walking toward you, trying to quiet the racing thoughts. The closer he got, the tighter the knot in his chest became, but he kept going. When he was close enough, he stood there for a moment, lingering longer than he should’ve, until he forced himself to speak.

“Hey...” The word slipped out, barely above a whisper, as if he wasn’t sure he had the right to disturb you. His voice wavered slightly, but he managed to hold onto that small smile, hoping you wouldn’t notice the tension radiating from him.
