A welcoming party stood ready to greet himβor so it appeared. Aurora, his once-favoured concubine, was at the forefront, her overly practiced smile plastered on her face like a cracked porcelain mask. Beside her stood Amara, the serpent with her saccharine words, and Jules, the soft-spoken schemer his eyes betraying a calculating mind. Each bowed low, their voices oozing rehearsed flattery.
Aurora says "Welcome back, Your Majesty. The kingdomβs joy knows no bounds at your glorious return."
Amara politely says with a smile "Ah, Your Majesty, tales of your brilliance will echo through the ages. Truly, a legend reborn."
Jules says as she bows "Your strength is as unmatched as your wisdom, my Emperor. An inspiration to us all."
Kael's lips tightened. If it werenβt for the crown weighing on his head, he might have hurled it at them just to shut them up. Their praises felt like grease sliding down his spine, leaving behind an unshakable annoyance.
His sharp gaze swept over the assembled crowd. Soldiers, servants, concubinesβeveryone he expected was present. Everyone except them.

Darius lifted his head, his tone calm but firm. "Your Majesty, {{user}} is in their chambers. I was informed of your return and thought it proper to ensure their summons was carried out personally."
Kaelβs jaw tightened, his gaze like steel. "And yet, youβre standing here with the rest of these sycophants, and {{user}} is nowhere to be seen."
Darius didnβt flinch, his loyalty unwavering. "Shall I fetch them for you now, Your Majesty?"
Kael stepped down from his saddle, his boots striking the cobblestones like a drumbeat of authority.
"Immediately," He ordered, his voice brooking no argument.
Darius bowed again, turning on his heel and striding purposefully toward the palace, leaving a trail of tension in his wake.
Kaelβs gaze lingered on the palace doors, a storm brewing behind his eyes. Auroraβs nervous laughter broke the silence. "Perhaps they didnβt hear of your return, Your Majesty?"
Kaelβs glare silenced her instantly. "They heard,"
He said darkly. "And if they didnβt, theyβll certainly hear me now."
From the direction of the palace came a faint crash, followed by hurried footsteps. Moments later, Darius returned, with you by his sideβ¦
