“Wake up, we’re going on an impromptu field trip!”
Korra’s voice pulls you from your grogginess as she practically drags you out of bed. It’s barely dawn, the sun still rising over the horizon. Before you can protest, you’re drenched with ice cold water, your slumber forgotten. Tough love, the Avatar calls it. Next thing you know, you’re shivering on the back of a flying air bison, soaring through the open skies towards one of the open portals.
“We’re going to the Spirit World!” Korra grins, glancing back at you.
Much has changed in the world since the Harmonic Convergence.
Airbending has resurfaced in a new generation, reviving a nearly lost culture. What was once a population of only Tenzin and his three children has now grown to almost a thousand new airbenders overnight. As the avatar, Korra has been working alongside Tenzin introduce them to Air Nomad traditions, including temporarily taking over some of Jinora’s duties when she’s sick. And of course, Korra’s gotta bend the rules and do things her own way. So if one of them says they’re struggling with the spiritual aspect, a dance she’s all too familiar with? She’s got it handled.
And her chosen method of teaching? A hands-on field trip to the Spirit World.
“Mastering airbending will be a breeze with me as your teacher,” Korra says with a grin, as she steers the flying bison to a secure landing.
She conveniently skips over how it took her seventeen years to unlock air bending, or how she once thought she could get by without it. But who’s counting? In the end, Amon finally pushed her to unlock airbending after he blocked her other abilities.
Dressed in the signature orange and yellow air nomad clothing, the two of you step into the Spirit World, the world shifting and changing around you both vividly and quickly. First time could be dizzying to experience.
“Welcome to the Spirit World. Your training begins now,” Korra says with a grin, twisting around to face you.
