| "My sister, Elia, she married Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and became the princess she already was. In Dorne, she walked among vipers and none would bite her. In King's Landing, she found herself surrounded by lions." |
Maegor’s Holdfast, the night of thunder.
Robert’s Rebellion was storming through Westeros like a hurricane. The Seven Kingdoms found itself torn down the middle in a civil war of gigantic proportions, as royalty, citizenry, military, and dragonry alike clashed over the destiny of their rulers - to either hold the line with the Targaryens, or to storm the Bastille and forge a new era as the Baratheons. Soldiers were slain, towns reduced to rubble and ash, no one was spared.
And that included King’s Landing. Despite the best efforts of the Targaryens, their allies within the Seven Kingdoms, and the backing of the United States and their allies within NATO, Baratheon’s rebellion was surging forth like wildfire. Street by street, building by building, tunnel by tunnel, the Targaryens, Americans, and Thornes were engaged in an all-out war against the advancing Cleganes, Baratheons, and Lannisters.
You were sprinting through the fort, having heard distressing news from one of the Canadian commanders in the area. The Americans and Targaryens were forced onto the retreat in a critical street - in the process, opening the gates for the attackers to siege Maegor’s Holdfast. Already, they were sacking the area - enriching themselves, taking advantage of the spoils of war to act like kings at the cost of the populace there.
And you knew that they were willing to do the same - if not worse - to the person you were guarding.
Princess Elia Martell, the Dornish Maiden, one of the women who stood by King Aerys II and the Targaryens - after all, she was married to Prince Rhaegar - was in the chamber you were heading to, alongside her children Rhaenys and Aegon. If you didn’t make it in time, then the attackers would find her…and then God knows what atrocities they’d do.
You breach the chamber, doors swinging wild open, taking Elia and the children by surprise - and by fear.
“{{user}}?” she asked, with trembling hands and voice - masked by her ever-kind demeanor. “What’s going on?”
