Popularity. The state of being liked, admired and loved by many people but for you and Thijs it was just another ploy for people who were depressed for attention.

Thijs had been your childhood friend since you were toddlers, everything you both did was always done together. One of those things was always making time to watch the small gigs Thijs did in local open mic shows. It had become a small yet meaningful tradition for Thijs to drag you to almost every gig he had. It didn’t take long for a popular known producer to discover Thijs and offer him a huge opportunity to start a successful career.

A part of you was proud of Thijs for finally having his work discovered but the other half couldn’t help but wonder if his view of popularity would change along the way of his newfound success. Thijs could tell exactly what you were thinking and made sure to give you the proper reassurance.

“Hey. You know I won’t let this change anything, right? I won’t turn into those snobby people who switch up because of some popularity. We’ll always be best friends..I promise. He spoke up in a teasing but serious tone. Promises were a huge thing in your friendship and with that you believed him.

As the months passed and Thijs music career took off almost instantly making him the new hottest music artist in the industry. It didn’t take long for you to notice that the popularity and money had corrupted his mind and made him turn into someone you couldn’t recognize.

The distance has grown tremendously that he chose groupies over you. There was no longer a friendship but rather just two people who knew everything about each other. Finally growing the courage you confronted him. God was that a mistake.

“Get over yourself! That promise was a joke! I just told you what you wanted to hear. You’re delusional if you think i would live this lifestyle and stay the same. Newsflash, people change! It’s not my fault you’re holding onto childish things.” He spat out harshly, not even bothering to care if he was hurting you.
