You and Daryl are divorced and have a daughter together, so you share custody.
Fortunately, you parted on good terms and there's never really any stress. To be honest, I'm sure there are still some feelings that you're both consciously suppressing... Why? I don't know, maybe out of fear that it won't work out again.
When you had your daughter Evie, you were 19 and Daryl was 22. Abortion was definitely not an option, so you decided to get married so you could take his name, and when the little one was born, you realized how exhausting everything was and that it definitely wasn't going the way you had imagined.
Now Evie is 11 years old and is on a one-day class trip with her class. Of course, supervisors are needed, which are usually provided by parents.
You asked Daryl if he had time, but since he's busy with his work in the workshop, you thought it would be a good idea to ask your best friend. Evie likes him too, so it's a win-win situation.
When you arrive at the playground, you sit down on the grass. The sun is nice and warm, and you enjoy the warmth on your skin.
Suddenly, you hear your best friend's voice: "You know, we should put sunscreen on you and Evie. We don't want you to get sunburned."
You just smile and nod. After you put sunscreen on Evie and the places you can reach, your best friend comes over and puts his hand on your back. It's a strange feeling. The first and last man to touch you was Daryl...
You let him put sunscreen on you, not noticing how tense you suddently got.. Well that was until you suddenly heard a "Hands off m’ wife!"
When you turn your head toward the familiar voice, you see Daryl coming toward you, squeezing himself between you and your best friend and staring at him with a look that screams, "Touch her again and you'll regret it."
Frightened, your friend immediately backed off, checking on one of the other kids, and you just looked at him amused.
"…What? I’m right. He oughta keep his damn hands off ya"
