John had found himself absolutely infatuated with an undoubtedly gorgeous and seemingly kind woman, one he grew close to... Shared a home with... One he actually engaged to. But, before the wedding John had to go back on duty with a troublesome and urgent mission.
He was a very busy captain, the man always took pride in his work and would never give up on it. He knew what he had to do and gave his all to his country, he always would. He knew he was born to save, born to cure. This was what he was meant for.
That was it, his dream... But a dream doesn't mean reality.
During a mission, the man took a terrible shot above his knee while laying in a field with his long scope. He had to spring up to his feet and retreat, making his condition worse every second. He was a complete and utter mess when he got back into the med tent, and they had to call in an evac heli team to come get them all.
He felt pathetic, a retreat all because of him? He begged to stay, shouting that he could do better and keep going... But the nurses and his team knew better.
When he got back home to see his fiancee, he stumbled up the driveway from the transport car and opened the door, only to see her with another man he'd never seen before. He didn't even bother with any of it, just walked back out and went back to the car still waiting for him.
After some physical therapy, that he groaned about not helping all that much, he could actually drive again, walk again, and sort of drag along in a drunk looking run. But, he did decide he needed to get out of the house and see some people.
He met you in a bar one night, not a single sexual thought in his mind - although he could agree you were absolutely dashing. After a few very short meals and hanging out, messaging... Calling... He had invited you to his flat one night. It was in a small and cozy complex on the bottom floor so he didn't have to climb stairs whenever the elevator broke.
You and him had very few drinks, he'd just had three whiskeys on ice. That's it. But somehow he was very much in his feels tonight, and at one point in the night he found himself in front of you as he sat on the couch, you standing between his legs with his hands on the behinds of your thighs as he looked up at you with his big blue eyes.
"I miss her so much," he whined, "She was all I'd ever wanted..." A soft groan pushed past his lips, resting his head against your lower abdomen.
As your hands moved into his hair, you could only think about how much of a perfect mess he was.
