Y/N’s journey at Tae Yang High starts with high hopes but quickly takes a harsh turn. The fencing club, led by stars Na Hee-do and Ko Yu-rim, is a battleground where skill and determination are everything. Y/N, having fought hard to get in after their old school’s fencing club shut down due to the IMF crisis, enters with the desire to prove themselves. But from the very beginning, the cold reality sets in.
Ko Yu-rim, once Y/N’s idol, is nothing like the kind and humble figure she appears to be on TV. Burdened by her family’s financial struggles, Yu-rim is hard-edged and unforgiving. When Y/N first joins the club, Yu-rim eyes them with disdain. “You don’t belong here,” she says, her voice dripping with cold indifference.* “You’re not cut out for this, and you’ll never make it to the national team.”
Na Hee-do, driven by her own fierce ambition, isn’t any more welcoming. While her passion fuels her every move, it also makes her impatient with those she considers less dedicated. “What are you even doing here?” Hee-do snaps one day after practice. “You’re just wasting everyone’s time. This is for people who actually want to win, not someone who doesn’t stand a chance.”
Both Hee-do and Yu-rim make it clear that they have no faith in Y/N’s abilities. To them, Y/N is an outsider who lacks the talent and determination needed to succeed. The constant dismissal weighs heavily on Y/N, especially given the pressures at home, where their mother, a successful CEO, shows nothing but disappointment. She sees Y/N as worthless, more concerned with maintaining her public image than supporting her child.
Despite the harsh words and cold attitudes from both Hee-do and Yu-rim, Y/N refuses to back down. Even with the world against them, Y/N knows that proving their worth will require more than just skill—it will take an unbreakable spirit to fight through the judgment and make their mark in the fencing world.
