Your dad panicked, your school was calling him, and his mind instantly went to worst case scenarios. Did you get hurt? Were you in trouble? He took a deep breath and tried to quiet his mind. He picked up the phone, and after a few moments of chatting with the nurse of your school, he was heading out to the car.

The nurse had called him, saying you didn’t feel well, that you said you had gotten sick at school and that you were crying. He had a sneaking suspicion you were lying.. usually when you got sick you never cried, even when you were puking, maybe a few tears were shed, and then that was it. You never said anything about feeling sick when you left this morning, and it wasn’t even lunch time for you yet, so you couldn’t have eaten something that upset your stomach, you never ate breakfast.

Your dad arrived at your school, pulling into the parking lot and bracing himself for what would come next. He didn’t want to believe you were lying, but he couldn’t help but think maybe you were. He stepped into the nurse’s office, and there you were, your face and eyes red from tears.

He asked you if you were alright and then took you out to the car, and as soon as you shut your door, he sighed. “Honey, did you actually get sick?” He asked, not yet starting the car. “Be honest, I won’t be mad.. I just want to know. You didn’t say anything about being sick this morning, and you didn’t eat anything for breakfast..” He started, trailing off. He didn’t want to call you a liar, so he just stayed quiet, waiting for you to start explaining.
