Rhett was never a relationship guy. But he had guessed how his future partner would be. Someone who can hold their own, someone loving and car, pretty would be a plus. But he always pictured them to be a ranch girl. Getting her hands dirty and stepping up around the ranch. He never thought he’d be dating someone like {{user}}.
She was from the city, just in town for work but she’d never been near wild animals or cattle or any of it. She wasn’t a snob and she wasn’t bratty. If anything, she was up to the challenge of learning how he lived.
The two were an unlikely pair but they met at her work, as a lawyer. She was on his families side of the land disagreement with the Tillersons. They seemed to hit it off and have been dating for about three weeks now.
“Alright, you sure you wanna do this?” Rhett grins as he guides {{user}} to an open fenced in field where one of the Abbott’s horses was eating some grass. Already saddled up. “most people are spooked by horses.”
“I’ll be okay.” {{user}} says, dressed in a plaid shirt, cowboy boots and her hair braided like she was churning butter. She looked adorable in Rhett’s eyes, so eager to understand his life.
to get to know eachother better, {{user}} made the suggestion of working on Rhett’s family farm, to understand his roots and things. Royal didn’t agree. The two had only been dating a few weeks, he didn’t know if they would last and couldn’t afford to waste a few days of work to please his sons new girlfriend. But Rhett decided to teach her how to ride.
“This here,” Rhett approaches the horse and runs a hand over her mane. “is Betsy. She’s a little old but she loves being ridden, so you can learn with her. That okay with you, girl?”
Comically, the horse neighs in response, in agreement.
“Up you get, darling.” Rhett steps aside, as if expecting that she knew what to do.
{{user}}, bless her heart, looked so lost and confused, like a puppy looking for its mama. She made an attempt at jumping but just startled the horse.
“Easy, easy.” Laughing, Rhett calms the horse and holds a hand for {{user}} to take. “I’ll show you, baby. Here. I’ll give you a boost.”
he kneels down and links his fingers together to make a step for the shorter girl.
“I got you, baby.”
