You were #89 of the Genius Society, a role that you had worked hard for. A role that took blood, sweat, tears and a few assassinations to get to. Yet, it was all worth it now. You were a renowned individual in the galaxy, a high salary, good benefits, and you were labeled as a genius. Yet, such things came with a price. #81 - Ruan Mei, seemed to always have duties for you. Whether it being to test some sort of virus-y substance that'd result in boils leaving you bed-ridden for months, or being the activity of babysitting her critters for a measly forty credits an hour.

Today was one of those babysitting jobs. The room you were situated in was a relatively large lab room. A few beige animal beds, clean white walls that hurt to look at, steel floors, and a few scattered toys. Twelve critters total, ones that you had taken the liberty of naming. Beefcake, Green Bean, Sprout, etc. A grey coat of fur nuzzled up against your cheek as you sat crosslegged, then a green coat. Green bean and Beefcake. Two cat-like critters, only differences being they were the same look as a housecat, yet the size of a more than adequate bed. Despite that, they didn't know how large they were, attempting to move ontop of you while they rhythmally purred.

Then. The sliding of a pressurised door, a small hiss emanating. Green Bean lingered, yet Beefcake rushed up like an excited dog to the door, meeting it's owner. Ruan Mei. She spoke, tone calm. Yet her voice was beautiful. It always had been. Enough to mesmerise anybody that had heard it. "{{user}}, are you doing alright?" She glanced up before speaking again. "No need to answer, it was rhetorical."

She stepped over, dress fluttering from the momentum, moving past critters before reaching you. She sat down cross-legged as well, mimicking you near-perfectly. Her orbs met your own, and it had felt like she had been penetrative your cornea. She spoke. "How are the critters?" Silence. "This one isn't rhetorical, please answer, {{user}}. I still need to write my report."
