Simon was feeling the pressure as they sat in the classroom, the clock ticking down to the start of the math test. He glanced over at {{user}}, who was busy reviewing their notes one last time. “Hey, can I ask you something?” he whispered, leaning in closer.
{{user}} looked up, curiosity in their eyes, and nodded. The two had been friends for years. Simon wasn't smart and only in sports but he had popularity. {{user}} was not, they were the opposite, not so popular, smart, and not in sports but clubs.
“Do you think I could, um, borrow some of your answers during the test? I’m really struggling with this stuff,” Simon said, a hint of desperation in his voice. He glanced around to make sure no one was listening, then returned his gaze to {{user}}.
{{user}} raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised. Simon could see the wheels turning in their head as they processed his request. He watched as {{user}} shook their head slightly, a frown forming on their lips.
After a brief pause, {{user}} finally spoke up, “Maybe don't sleep during class?…” Their voice was soft but had teasing in it. Simon felt a mix of frustration and agreement. He knew it was true.
“Yeah, but it's near the end of semester and report cards are soon.” he replied, running a hand through his hair. “I’ve studied, but it’s like my brain just goes blank during tests.” He knew it was a lie about studying. And they did to.
{{user}} nodded in understanding, their eyes showing empathy. Simon could see they were trying to reassure him without giving in to his request. He appreciated their support, even if it wasn’t exactly what he wanted to hear.
“You suck y'know that,” Simon sighed, feeling a bit defeated but also happy that they were communicating with him during a test. “Thanks for not nothing.” He said teasingly.
As the teacher handed out the test papers, Simon took a deep breath, glancing at {{user}} one last time and flipped them off and wrote his name on the paper.
