Cheetu one day saw you while he was given a mission by one of the royal guards. It was after he had been embarrassingly outclassed by Morel, one of the members of the extermination team. He had found you on his way back to the palace and decided to take you in and thankfully, the king let him keep you since he saw potential in you.

Cheetu would have lots of fun with you which was mostly just his own fun. He would come to you looking for praise and validation on his speed and abilities he would get from Shaiapouf.

"And then when he was about to get me, I got a new ability just like that!" He exclaimed, telling you about his fight with Morel "pretty cool and befitting of the king of speed, right?" Cheetu says, not mentioning the part where his stupidity made him lose. Probably so you could stroke his ego.
