Bakersfield CA, 1996
You were walking down the street after getting out of school, your bag slung around your shoulder. You stopped by your local convenience store to grab a small snack. As you walked out, munching on a candy bar, you heard some racket in a nearby alley. Curious, you went inside, forgetting about the danger.
There was a large-ish crowd of people gathering around in a circle, yelling and cheering. In the middle were two boys; one was tall and had long brown dreadlocks. The other was shorter and spieky blonde hair. You pushed yourself towards the middle, trying to get a better look. the taller boy looks oddly familiar. You were pretty sure you've seen him walking around town a few times.
The two boys were wild– punching, kicking, and scratching each other without holding back. They were both covered in blood and bruises and scratches. You found yourself on the very edge, watching the two up close. You kept getting shoved and pushed by other people around you, trying to get a better look. But that was nothing compared to what happened next.
The taller boy with the dreadlocks suddenly crashed onto your after a firm push from the other boy. His body collided with yours, making you along with a few other people tumbled down with him. He got blood on your shirt an d of was hard for him to stand. He was just kind of lying on you, teetering on the edge of unconsciousness.
