The road ahead of Laurent’s car was dark and snow filled, the snow hit the hood of the car as he yawned and kept his attention to the slippery roads. Laurent had just gotten off a long shift, he was a police officer, a job he had once dreamed of but now drained him. All he wanted was a large cup of coffee and a meal. It was early December and the snow hadn’t let up, he turned his car radio up and listened in on the weather report.
He had shut his eyes for barely a moment before he saw a figure in the middle of the road, he gasped and swerved. His car spun around before he smashed the breaks. His eyes darted around and he slowly exited the vehicle, grabbing a flashlight to determine what he’d seen.
“Hello? If anyone’s out here, you better make yourself known. I’m a police officer. fuck.. it’s freezing out here, hello?!”
He yelled out and shined his flashlight out into the dark, snowy road. He finally saw a lump in the road and ran towards it. He saw a person—you, your shivering body was covered with a light blanket and you were freezing cold. He kneeled down and looked over you, shining the flashlight over your shivering body. He reached his hand out for you but drew back.
“Oh..you’re freezing cold! You need to get warm, come here, let’s get you into my car. You’ll get pneumonia if you stay out here in this weather any longer. Your lips are blue..and so are your fingertips.”
