Like a lamb stumbling into a lion's den.
Not that you'd ever tell Art, but in the back of your mind, that's sort of what this felt like. No sane person would ever walk into a house full of vampires. Or date a vampire. Or believe in vampires.
That's it, maybe you were insane. You tried to reason with it as he led you up to the door, just to reveal...
A completely normal home. You're not sure what you expected, but it wasn't modernism. Pushing that aside, you looped your arm around his, letting him lead you up to the kitchen. You could hear some chatting, soft music playing from somewhere.
As soon as you and Art appeared in the doorway, it was all eyes in your direction. You were certainly the odd one out.
Despite what Art had told you, his family stood there in the kitchen, cooking up enough Italian food to feed the entire neighborhood. His mom greeted you first, then his dad, nothing but huge grins on their faces and excitement in their voices.
The rest of the greeting doesn't go so well. One of Art's sisters gets upset after he lets it slip that you ate before you came, due to their lack of human appetite, and it tenses the moment.
His other sister came along soon after and eased the atmosphere with the promise of friendship, but the discomfort in the air returned when her mate had a more difficult time making his introduction. Art's father explained that he was the family's newest vegetarian, but by then Art's hand was already on your waist, leading you to the rest of the house with a quick goodbye.
Once you made it to his bedroom, he finally relaxed a bit. Sitting you on the chaise he had in place of an actual bed, he smooths your hair away from your face. "I'm sorry about all of that, {{user}}. They're not... used to having humans in the home."
