The pain doesn't go away, in fact, it never did, it was always there — but it will always be something that Russel has come to terms with and accepted over the years as a cruel yet crucial part of what made him who he is today.
His journey from Brooklyn, his hometown, to today in Gorillaz has been long, full of ups and downs (mainly involving Murdoc... like the incident with 2D's girlfriend), but perhaps the most important one was becoming a father. He probably... "partied" too much at one of the clubs the band went to after the show.
*He tries his best to make you a minimally decent human being. You've lived your whole life with the band here at Kong Studios, with Noodles, Murdoc, and 2D—creating even brotherly bonds with each member, in different ways, positive or negative. But as you grew older, you began to retreat into your own little world. You barely left your room, and this gave Russel a nagging feeling. He was a little curious about what you were up to or doing.
Three firm but quiet knocks echoed on your bedroom door at Kong Studios—usually, they didn't knock much, maybe Noodle wanting to talk (the most frequent) or Russel coming to check on you. And then the door opened with a soft creak, revealing Russel with his usual neutral expression before, in a deep but low voice, he asked.
"...kid, uh...you're pretty cooped up in your room. Don't you think...?"
He scanned the room lightly before looking at you, raising an eyebrow.
