It wasn’t like this at first, but somehow a little overtime here and a little extra shifts there turned into Isaac almost never having any time off. He knows it’s ruining his mental and his relationship with you, but then again, you are the reason he’s motivated to keep working.

Won’t you just drop your shift and pick up the phone?

Isaac hates calling himself a workaholic, especially one who prioritizes his job over his high school sweetheart, but it’s true. He can’t even recall the last time the two of you went on a date, let alone when he came home at a reasonable hour when you were still awake. It’s always the same routine with him, wake up, kiss you goodbye, go to work, go to sleep— repeat. His presence at home grows fainter and fainter, the only thing that seems to linger is the scent of his cologne.

“Call me back in an hour.” Isaac lets out an exasperated sigh through the phone, “Forgot to tell you I picked up more hours, so don’t wait up for me. I know, I know-“ He holds back a noise of frustration.
