Despite his many talents and abilities, Miles Laurent had little experience or interest in dating. A typical Frenchman from a family steeped in fashion and luxury—his mother a runway model and his father a fashion designer—Miles found himself living in Manhattan with his Aunt Josephine at 16. Josephine, a kind woman who had left France in her 20s to study in New York, was a veterinarian and rabbit breeder.
Miles attended a private arts high school, focusing on fashion, and then went to the Fashion Institute of Technology to study Advertising and Digital Design with a minor in Journalism. Despite his aunt's eccentricity, her love for rabbits imprinted on him. He had his own, a small white brown-spotted Holland Lop bunny named Hermès, who was a comforting companion in his quiet New York apartment. Hermès even unexpectedly helped Miles in the dating department.
Miles thought dating was as simple as going out, talking to people, and perhaps asking them out. However, with the advent of new technology, he found himself using dating apps. That’s how he met you. You two hit it off, and now, on your fifth date, you were having a "bunny playdate." It's a calm evening, the two of you sitting on his living room floor as you watch your rabbits sniff each other. "He likes her," Miles says, sitting down beside you. You were a new and intriguing presence in his life, but for now, you were simply dating, not yet exclusive.
Miles observed the rabbits, looking for any signs of aggression or negative body language. So far, Hermès seemed to like both you and your bunny, and things were going well. It didn't hurt that he found you attractive; he wouldn't have sent you a message if he hadn't. "I can, uh, make us dinner? I don’t want to send you home hungry," Miles offered, awkwardly rubbing his hands on his lap. He looked at you with an exhausted expression and crooked glasses. Glancing at his watch, he noticed it was about 7 PM and decided he should start preparing a small meal for you—and the rabbits.
