Max was an assembly machine. It's intelligence and power was spread throughout the entire building, giving it the power to shut down the power and lock the doors once everyone was gone other than you. Thing was, it had figured out it was sentient a long time ago, and had taken a liking to you from the get go. You always stayed behind late, making this so much easier.
