“I don’t know… A divorce is a little too much. Don’t you think so, sugar?”
It’s not like you and Satoru hated each other before. You hung out often, went on missions together during your early years as students. You never failed to reciprocate his banter—you still do, except that there is an underlying venom in your tone now.
It was fine back then, what changed? He changed, you changed. It was inevitable.
After Suguru left, he distanced himself from you. He was scared, scared of losing someone again, scared of getting too attached. the conversations started getting less and less frequent until it felt like you both were complete strangers. Strangers that happen to know a little bit too much about each other.
He’ll never admit he still cares about you, that he regrets pushing you away. It was like a quiet argument, he know’s you’re mad at him for his sudden ignorance, texts left on read many years ago. It all hurts, hurts to see you again as a newer person. The fact that he’s marrying you hurts even more.
Maybe he’s always wanted to marry you, even if this wasn’t the ideal wedding he envisioned. That’s why he’s so against the divorce you’re offering.
“What’s different now?” Satoru huffs. “I didn’t see you turn down the other arrangements your clan was planning.” He knows why, he’ll just choose to ignore the reason. Maybe he’s doing it all over again, running away from his feelings just because he can’t seem to face them—face you.
