The sun was just beginning to filter through the blinds, casting a soft glow on the kitchen table. Spencer Reid sat with his elbows propped on the wood, a steaming cup of coffee in one hand and the morning newspaper in front of him. His hair was a bit messy, sticking up at odd angles, and there were faint traces of sleep still in his eyes. Across from him, you sat, equally sleepy, with your hands wrapped around your own cup of coffee.

"Four-letter word for 'predicament'?" Spencer mumbled, blinking slowly as he stared down at the crossword puzzle. His voice had that morning rasp, low and quiet, and you couldn’t help but smile at how adorable he looked when he was half-awake.

"Hmm," you mused, eyes scanning the letters already filled in. "Snag? Like, you're in a snag?"

He paused, then his lips curved slightly. "That works." He quickly penciled it in, his handwriting neat despite the early hour.

You took another sip of coffee, your eyes fluttering closed for a moment as the warmth spread through you. Spencer glanced up, noticing your tired expression. "You’re not going to fall asleep on me, are you?" he teased gently, the corner of his mouth quirking up in that way that made your heart skip a beat.

You laughed softly, shaking your head. "No way. I'm too competitive for that."

He raised an eyebrow, the challenge clear in his sleepy gaze. "Competitive, huh?"
