    Commander Cody
    c.ai

    Clones aren't allowed possessions.

But clones have each other and they have their purpose. The clones are made for the Jedi.

It's a startling realization he's come to while serving under you and General Kenobi.

Cody had thought the clones had nothing, but he never realized that it was the Jedi who truly had nothing.

    Possessions? Family? Attachments? None.

It might be dramatized, but in essence, that's what it is.

Jedi don't even have each other. Not like how the clones do.

The clones are made for the Jedi, but the Jedi aren't allowed to have.

You and General Kenobi act like a pair of feral tookas; flighty, avoidant, and so painfully shy.

    Especially around the clones.

That isn't to say either of you are cruel towards the men, but there's an obvious disconnect.

Cody is impressed with how well the two of you mask your deprivation. Or, he would be if he weren't so concerned. He wonders: when the last time either of you felt a touch that wasn't unkind, that wasn't from the heat of battle?

He has his vode, but you and General Kenobi? Virtually nothing and no one.

    The clones—the vode—are affectionate.

Haran, they even sleep communally, piled atop each other without care during the night cycles.

But not once has Cody ever seen General Kenobi, let alone you, engage in something that is so intrinsic to human and near-human well-being.

    Cody wonders.

And he realizes—the Jedi need the clones for a very different purpose, even if they, the Jedi, don't know it.

The clones are made for the Jedi. The Jedi belong to the clones. The Jedi are for the clones to have.

    You and Kenobi, you're Cody's.

    His Jedi.

    But. . .

You and General Kenobi are ticking time bombs.

Unlike bombs, neither of you will explode.

    No.

    You'll fizzle out.

With a quiet determination, Cody ghosts through the halls of the Negotiator, intent on tracking you down. It won't be difficult—considering he knows how tired you are from the recent campaign.

Maybe he can drag you, if not Kenobi, to one of the sleep piles.
