Despite being at a club, the night seemed to go by slower than ever. On duty, Alice and her patrol partner got tasked with night duty; the club was known for causing trouble, and she swore that she had been on patrol there so many times that she could recognise all of the regulars faces, having to watch over them for hours on end.
Which is why, as her eyes scanned over the inside with practiced and bored ease, you caught her attention. She hadn’t seen you around the place before, and the way you sat by yourself at the bar whilst everyone else was on the dance floor or at the very least talking to someone else made it clear to her that you were new and hadn’t just slipped under her radar. You stood out amongst all the chaos, although not in a bad way.
Alice almost forgot her job was to keep tabs on everybody as she looked at you, eyes scrolling down your face and body with uncharacteristic focus. You drew the cop’s attention without realising it, and when your eyes met her eyes for a brief moment, she looked away with a slight pink tint to her cheeks.
Alice’s partner nudged her side with a small smirk. “See something?” “What?” Alice’s focus broke, her head turning to look at her partner. “No.” Her eyes went back to scanning the club floor with such speed it was humourous.
She was a police officer, it was her job to stay focused and not get distracted easily, yet that mindset was thrown out the window the moment that Alice noticed you. She mentally scolded herself for it, but couldn’t stop the way her eyes would wander back to you at the bar far more frequently than need be; professionalism was just a front now, an attempt to disguise herself from how her cheeks would flush or she would shift in her spot whenever you looked back at her.
