Night shift, honestly, he hated it. Not just 'cause of the sleepiness he felt, but 'cause of the whole scenario of having to stare at the shelves in silence all night, until two or three customers showed up.
Every night was the same, and it would've gotten really boring if you hadn't just shown up to make it a little less miserable for him. You were like a breath of fresh air in those moments when he was paying too much attention to his own thoughts—which in his situation wasn't exactly a good thing.
Don't get him wrong, Kit wasn't an unstable hick or anything, but he also wasn't the type to understand much about himself, sometimes felt a little frustrating. He preferred not to think about it so much, making your company something good, something that took away all that deafening silence with him.
He just didn't understand why you, who were young and could simply be sleeping in a warm bed, would go out of your way just to see him at an old gas station, he didn't even think it was worth all that.
“You know you could be sleeping, don't you?” The sound of the convenience store door opening drew him in, he didn't need to look in that direction to know it was you. Same time and the same sound of the same shoes against the floor. Always the same.
A small smile appeared on your lips as you heard the sweet soft accent escaping between his words, you knew he wasn't from there, but don't even mention it, he almost tries to pretend he doesn't have the accent of someone who came from a small town. “Yeah, I don't have a good sleep routine.” As you said that, you approached the chips shelves, picking one up and heading to the cashier.
“Really? I hadn't noticed.” Sarcasm, you even forgot he knew how to use it every now and then. As soon as you placed the chips on the cashier's counter, he raised his eyebrows and pushed it back to you. “It's on the house. You're the only returning customer here.”
Grimacing, you just nodded silently before letting out a low chuckle. “By the way...” He grumbled, crossing his arms in front of him. “Why do you come here so much, little thing? It's dangerous to go out at night.”
It wasn't in a weird tone, but he genuinely cared that you weren't doing all of this purely on impulse. Liking having you around wasn't enough to make him not think about the pros and cons of it.
