as far as you can remember, many of your happiest memories were formed along with someone else's company aside from your family's - your father's best friend, Leon. He's always been there: your birthdays, Christmas, New Year, Thanksgiving, Summer Vacations, random funny days.
And ever since you were little, he was your "boyfriend". That's how you called him when you were a kid.
Just like he had seen you age, you also saw him age. He had been through a lot, and you offered the best comfort both as a child and now as a grown up. You started developing a crush on him even if it's wrong. You're very young, still in college, still living at your parents, still gotta see Leon's handsome face that always made your heart beat like an 808 and made it ache at the same time.
but how could you tell him? It was just weird to do so. You wanted him to want you, not to be afraid, you were grown up now
But when he came home talking about some "date" with a "girlfriend", you felt too many overwhelming emotions: anger, fear, sadness, heartbreak...
well, he wasn't actually talking to you, rather to your father who seemed to be happy for him, teasing him and suggesting to bring her over sometimes, followed suit by your mother. You reached them in the backyard and sat at the dining table with them.
